About

22/5/26 - 25/5/26

After years of racing ultra distance events I have finally made the time to put my own event on. Why? Firstly I think that my home roads offer some of the best gravel riding in the UK and I want to show the to the world. Additionally, one of the main aims of Aethelred is to make it as assessable as possible for everyone. It is very daunting to enter your first ultra so i have tried to reduce that fear factor as much as possible without detracting from the experience

The Route

The router is designed as a figure of 8 shape with race HQ, a campsite near Salisbury. This allows riders to stop, refuel, sleep and change clothes at the half way point. The joy of this is that people dont need to carry quite as much and gives you the ability to have a hard reset halfway through.

600km is a long way but it covers some of the finest gravel and backroads in the South West so time will pass quickly. its around 60% off road and it deliberately avoids off road for the sake of it!

More details will follow over the coming months including the full gpx file a week before the event to try to keep some suspense.

Rules

1) The event is self-supported, this means that riders may only use any commercially available resupply or assistance provided by the organiser. Supporters are welcome on course but they must not ride with you or give you anything.

2) There is no drafting with the exception of pairs, you may naturally be riding at the same pace as someone, feel free to have a chat for a bit but remember that this is your own ride.

3) Riders must follow the exact route provided on the GPX file, you may leave the route but must return to it at the same point before continuing.

4) Riders must have their own Insurance. (BC or Cycling UK is fine)

5) Riders may leave anything they would like at HQ and use it when they pass through.

6) You may help riders in need and there will be no penalty given.

7) Be nice! nothing can be fully covered by the rules but hopefully you get the vibe.
